First thing this morning we checked out the waterfront in Port Fairy. Is a gorgeous standstone heritage town on the water!!! Very scenic, lots of boats and definitely keen to return here for a longer time to explore the surrounds.
Drove to Warnambool and checked out the Logan beach Whale Watching Platform but no whales!
On the road to Peterborough – stopped at Bay of Island and Bay of Martyr look outs. The sun was shining on the rock formations – totally spectacular!!
Decided to head inland from Peterborough to Timboon. Looking forward to a foodie graze…..ice creams, cheesery, Berry World and chocolates. Everything was closed….except Timboon Cheesery at Schultz Dairy.
This is a must if you LOVE LOVE Devonshire teas. The scones were fresh, large and homemade. The jam was homemade and chunky. And they had their very own Schutz clotted cream. ABSOLUTELY DELISH!!!!! Cannot praise this highly enough…..made the detour to Timboon so worth it!!!!
Once back at Peterborough we continued to travel slowly north on The Great Ocean Road. You forget when you haven’t driven this road for awhile….just how spectacular it is!!
Had a very enjoyable day stopping at each of the viewing platforms….all so well signposted. You wont miss them. One of our faves was ‘The Grotto’ …..a long walk down timber staircase but the oval shaped arch was so spectacular.
Interesting of the 12 Apostles….you can now only see 7 !! This is beyond AMAZING out on the platform that looks north and south over these magnificent rock formations!!! And you really get a sense of how much the wind and water have etched away much of the landscape out here.
Onwards to Apollo Bay where we stopped and had lunch in the main street. Nothing special….not even worth telling you which café it was….it was just the café that happened to still be open at 3pm (was a VERY late lunch!!!).
The trip from Apollo Bay to Torquay is so so spectacular as the road winds along the coast around mountain after mountain!! There was roadworks closer to Torquay…..we actually had to drive very very slowly on the winding roads. While this was a bit frustrating….it slowed us down to really appreciate the picturesque scenery!!
Our favourite place on this stretch of coast was Lorne. It had beautiful tall old gums lining the streets with fabulous water views!!!
By this time though…we were on a mission to get to Daylesford before it was too late.
Arrived in Daylesford at 7pm and checked into Central Springs Inn (our fave place and accommodation). Our choice of room here are the heritage ones which have the fireplaces.
We decided to go out for dinner tonight and ended up at Frangos, Daylesford. This meal did not disappoint. From the fairylit room, garlic pizza (that was next level!!) and the delicious seafood linguine…I was in food heaven….seriously!!! So so good to be back in Daylesford!! A wonderful way to cap off a truly wonderful day of sightseeing!!
