Started the day today walking along the concrete pathway next to Aslings Beach in Eden. We walked for about 40mins and was such a lovely walk looking out over Twofold Bay at sunrise.
As an added bonus there were beautiful painted pictures on the pathway depicting much of Eden’s whaling history. Was a good start to our road trip day!
We drove on the Snowy Mountain Hwy and ended up in Cooma. After scouting the main street for a café, we found Lott Café. This was a real find… service attentive and the brunch was upmarket, well plated and importantly… delish. And Jen said the coffee was amazing!!
After brunch we headed across the road to the Charles Davis Gallery which is in an old church building. This gallery is a MUST SEE!! Charles is a local photographer and he has captured the wildlife and the snow in an exquisite way. There are stories attached to each of his photos and I especially liked the wombat story.
Charles lay in the snow and took pics of a wombat walking towards him on the snow. Only problem was Charles did not know at that point that the wombat would not deviate from his trajectory and ended up head butting Charles and his camera gear. Was quite a funny story to read… but the photos he captured were unreal!!! Make time if you are in Cooma to visit this gallery.
From here it was easy drive into Canberra. After checking in to our hotel, we walked to Parliament House for a look. On the map it looked like it was a very straight forward walk… but we found ourselves crossing very large busy roads and cutting through the gardens of Parliament House to find the main entrance. Not a walk I would recommend… lol. Thankfully we were not approached by security… but it was a real possibility given the trek we made.
Finally reached the main entrance and were just in time for the next guided tour.
Has been a long time since my last visit… always interesting and I think I was more receptive to the detailed information this time. Really enjoyed the visit and was gobsmacked by all the marble in the foyer!!!
From here we walked down to Lake Burley Griffin and walked around the lake to the restaurants.
Was quite a hike but we did find a lovely restaurant for dinner and got an Uber back to our hotel.
The hotel had a lovely vibe on the ground floor eatery area and we chilled out with cocktails when we got back.
Was a great end to the day.
