Headed from Goolwa to Myponga which was a lovely drive.
From Myponga we went onto Yankalilla….where we discovered Yankilila Bakery. Their specialty is wagon wheels and they were DELICIOUS!!!! A decadent way to start the day 🙂
Past Normanville there is a spectacular stretch of road with the beautiful pine trees of Lady Bay.
Stop at the look out at Lady Bay……spectacular views of the rugged coastline north and south.
We turned right off the main road to visit both Rapid Bay and then Second Valley further on.
Both were worth visiting with great views down at the piers. My fave was Second valley.
Popped down to Cape Nelson (where the ferries go across to Kangaroo Island). This brought back memories of a trip 30+ years ago where we had holidayed on Kangaroo island. The look out gives a great view of the island and the ocean. Very, very windy and cold though!!!
Next stop was Victor Harbour which has a causeway across to Granite Island. We walked part way across the causeway but didn’t walk all the way or do the 40min circuit walk on Granite Island. Wasn’t a big fan of Victor Harbour – interesting how you sometimes get a vibe about a place and its completely subjective. Not sure why I wasn’t liking it.
Port Elliot though….was the complete opposite. I LOVED Port Elliot!!! The beautiful clear, green water and the large rocks. Can really recommend Flying Fish Café !! You have a choice at the café…..either a café experience or more upmarket restaurant. We opted for the casual café lunch and it was DELISH especially the salt and pepper calamari. And our table overlooked Port Elliot beach!!!!
From the café we walked around the beach to the pier – was a lovely walk.
A must do is also to visit Port Elliot Bakery. This bakery is famous for its specialty doughnuts and people drive down from Adelaide for them. They have a specialty doughnut of the month and the one we bought was an Oreo Cheesecake Doughnut.
It is by far the BEST, MOST DELISH doughnut I have every tasted!! I usually don’t eat anything with that much dairy…..but I made an exception in this case 🙂
Back in Goolwa we headed out to the Goolwa Barrage. We only just got there not long before it closed but managed to see the lock in operation and saw the local seals. Definitely worth a visit.
Enjoyed some lovely home cooking and a board game with Greg and Sarah. Such a treat to be holidaying but cosy in a home environment. Felt very BLESSED by their hospitality!!!
