Day 10 – Goolwa to Port Fairy (639kms)

Nice coastline drive to Meningie – 153kms

Jen and I stretched our legs and did the 400m Pelican walk in the towncentre……but the highlight was seeing Jen perched on the emu!!!  at the end of the walk.

Next stop Kingston – 142kms

Kingston is known for its crayfishing and has Larry the huge Lobster in the main street. And YES!!!! we did stop and get a photo…..always ready for an excuse to stretch the legs.

Inserted by editor (Kev) against my better judgement

Loved Robe – 43kms – very scenic seaside town.

Highly recommend visiting the Obelisk – drive out to carpark and then walk to the Obelisk. Lots of photo opportunities 🙂

Very very scenic with birds, water and the colours of the rock.

On the walk back from the Obelisk…..look for the look out on your left……worth the detour.

Back in Robe we had cuppas and sticky buns at Governor Robe Attic House ( in the main street)…..was a definite thumbs up for the coffee and for yumminess (is that a word???)

On the road again……this time to Mount Gambier – 128kms

First stop was the Metro Bakery in the main street to meet up with Kiama friends who were holidaying in Mount Gambier and have late lunch!! Great coffee!

Checked out the Blue Lake. Unfortunately it was not the aqua colour I remembered it being (this is only in Dec/Jan) – but you could see the incredible clear/aqua colour on the sides. Definitely recommend at the right time of year.

Visited the Umpherston Sinkhole – this is SPECTACULAR!!! Wooden staircase down to a gardened sinkhole. Must do!!

After our sightseeing in Mount Gambier it was now mid afternoon – so we drove on through Nelson and Portland. Drove slowly through both but did not stop as it was getting dark. Very picturesque places!

Arrived in Port Fairy and drove to our cabins in the Big 4 Caravan park. Super impressed with the staff here. They upgraded us free of charge to their premium cabins (rang us to tell us this earlier in the day). They turned on the A/C in the cabin before we arrived so they were cosy and warm. So so appreciative of these thoughtful gestures and definitely inspires you to revisit these places!!!!

Had takeaway Thai tonight which was a lovely treat after a day of driving while watching ‘Escape to the Country’ 🙂 🙂
